Columbus, Ohio Temple

My sisters, my mom, and I had a day trip to the Columbus, Ohio temple. We live in the Chicago Temple District, but since recent floodings, the Chicago Temple was closed due to water damage. However, the Columbus temple is an hour closer to us than Chicago! It is very beautiful and it was wonderful to attend the temple again!

Priest-Laurel Conference

March 20-21st

A few weeks ago, I attended a Priest and Laurel Conference in West Lafayette, Indiana, where youth of the Church 16-18 throughout the State of Indiana gathered for a dance, devotionals, and a scavenger hunt. We were hosted by Purdue University; supposedly, the conference was to encourage the youth to apply for college there.

Friday night, there was a dance. I wasn't sure what to expect: youth from the ENTIRE state of Indiana were coming. Surely, it would be packed with hundreds of kids. Uhh, no. I had a reality check: I'm in Indiana. There were probably about 40 kids, if that.

Regardless, I enjoyed myself. I met a girl, Jasmine, from Fort Wayne 1st Ward, at the dance, and spent the night with a girl, Emily, from Niles, Michigan.
For the night, we were "hosted" by LDS families from the West Lafayette area. My hosts, Stacey and Chris, were the sweetest people with the cutest two little girls. Certainly, it was a little odd spending the night at a stranger's house with a stranger girl (Emily), but within minutes we were conversing like old friends. I am constantly amazed by the genuine kindness of the Mid Western people!

Saturday, there was a board discussion about the school, and we had an "Institute" class. Then we split into groups and went on a scavenger hunt around campus, our mission to find specific buildings and landmarks and take pictures in front of them. PU is a gorgeous school! It's immaculate, with large, old red brick buildings and bright green grass. During the board discussion, however, the students refused to tell how much they paid for tuition...

(Because Blogger has issues and won't let me see the pictures as I edit them, I'll just write a general caption: These are pictures from the scavenger hunt. Jasmine is wearing a white jacket, while my friend Ashtin is wearing a grey sweater! I'm the weird looking one! ;) The picture of us in the fountain: The man who established Purdue University is buried below our feet. The last picture is of Jasmine and me, both wearing our outrageously bodacious fatty glasses!)

First Date! <3

On Friday, March 27, I went on my first date!

As some of you may know, some friends and I had planned a date for the Saturday before my 16th birthday (the day before) but mom and I talked and decided that it would be beneficial to my future (and my conscience) if I waited until after my birthday. So I called my date and asked to reschedule, and we did, for the next weekend. But one of the guys caught the flu, so the date was postponed once again.

Finally, I was able to go on a date! It was two couples: my friends Jason and Jasmine (see the previous post), and my date, Ashtin, and me. We ate dinner at Panda Express (Kung Pow! Chicken--yum!) and saw "Knowing" with Nicholas Cage. Very intense movie, with a retarded ending, but overall incredibly good!

The date was a success--and a blast! I love my friends!

This is us waiting in Barnes and Noble for Jason's parents to pick us up:

(Jason is left, Ashtin is behind, Jasmine is front, I am right)
