The Master Cleanse - Day Five

Today I drank a combination of orange juice, carrot juice, vegetable broth, and SuperFood. Each tasted rather good and I actually felt like I had a substance in my stomach (because I did).

Last entry I said everyone told me I'm crazy, but today at work my co-worker asked me about the diet and is actually very interested in it. A guy from the Verizon kiosk next to mine is considering taking it on as a cure for his nicotine addiction.

So...maybe I'm not so crazy as I thought. =)

Tomorrow I can eat hard food. I'm so excited! =D

The Master Cleanse - Day Four

I'm all over the place.

Early this morning, my mom went to the health foods store and ran into my masseuse/health nut friend, and together they agreed that I was too young and petite to continue the diet any longer. So my mom bought pure orange juice and she and I started our first day going off the diet today.

Another reason we decided to go off the diet so early is because I've already lost three pounds--in two weeks I'd be little more than a skeleton.

I just realized I should probably give you a run-down of the whole process:

Night before Day 1: Drink a detox tea.

Day 1: Drink six-or more glasses of the lemonade/maple syrup/cayenne concoction, depending on hunger. That and purified water are all to be taken.

Night of Day 1: Drink a laxative tea.

Day 2-however long you decide to stay on the diet: Repeat Day 1 process.

Day 1 of Going off Diet: Drink 6 glasses or more of pure (organic) orange juice.

Day 2 of Going Off Diet: Alternate between glasses of orange juice and vegetable broth (must be vegetarian).

Day 3 of Going Off Diet: Satiate hunger with fresh fruit or vegetables/vegetable soup.

Day 4 of Going Off Diet: Your system is now ready to digest hard food again. The manual advises against meat, milk products, and obviously unhealthy food. They are the things which put the toxins in your body in the first place...

So that's the process. Simple enough. Easy? No.

Today, I remained lightheaded, and actually felt real hunger. This is because of the orange juice, which I actually have to digest, making my empty stomach work. I daresay this orange juice is HEAVENLY, however. =D

Whenever I tell anyone about this diet, they think I'm crazy. It's been proven to work, but I don't really FEEL healthier, or cleansed. My mom assures me that I'll feel the difference if I eat something unhealthy, something which I sort of experience on Sunday. After partaking of the fluffy white bread for the Sacrament, I instantly felt bloated. I'm fairly certain my system will react similarly in the future to junk food.

It's a strange thing, actually. Even before the diet, the ill feeling I get when I ate junk food is almost all the incentive I need to be a total health nut. I can compare how I feel when I eat healthily and when I don't, and I definitely prefer the former.

Although it's one step closer to food, I'm not particularly excited about the vegetable broth: It's rather...not tasty. After this diet, however, it may be wonderful.

I'll let you know.

By the way, if you're like me and enjoy finding new, good musical bands and songs, here are a few I've discovered recently (or just recommend):

Anastacia - Catchy pop. I recommend "Absolutely Positively" and "I Call It Love".

Anberlin - Sometimes hard rock, sometimes soft and melancholy, with great vocal, I have yet to find a song of theirs with vulgar language. I recommend the albums "Never Take Friendship Personal" or "Blueprints of the Black Market" though I love the singles "Breathe" and "Inevitable".

The Cab - Catchy rock/pop/alternative, and the vocalist's voice makes me melt. I recommend the singles "This City is Contagious" and "Vegas Skies".

Dave Barnes - A lot of piano with guitar. Relaxing. Shiver-worthy voice (seriously). I recommend "Until You" (which I think is one of the most perfect songs ever) and "On a Night Like This".

Emerson Hart - Relaxing and catchy...alternative? I guess. I recommend the single "I Wish the Best For You".

He Is We - acoustic alternative. All of their songs that I've heard are incredible. Recommend "Happily Ever After" and "I Wouldn't Mind."

Train - Very catchy rock/alternative. You probably know them from their singles "Calling All Angels" or "Drops of Jupiter". I love their new album, "Save Me, San Francisco" and recommend the songs "This Ain't Goodbye", "Marry Me", and especially "Hey, Soul Sister."

Hope you like the suggestions!

The Master Cleanse - Day Three

Today was...interesting.

Let me explain. First, I awoke at 5:30 with the desperate need for the bathroom. It was all mostly a blur, as I was so lightheaded I could hardly walk. As it was about the time to get ready to go to seminary, my mom was awake. We discussed my condition: I was lightheaded and my stomach was upset, and we agreed seminary wasn't in our best interest at that moment. Mom prepared half a quart of warm-temperature salt water (something the manual suggests) as a second laxative/cleanser.

Ew. I don't even like gargling salt water. Upon downing the salt water, my stomach quelled and I wasn't sure if I would keep it down. I eventually fell back asleep, only to awake two hours later to relieve myself again.

Throughout the day I felt lightheaded and nauseated--with a burning desire for food. The lemonade is actually quite lovely when you're starving, though in my opinion hardly filling. I made sure to drink as much lemonade as I could, and it seemed to help. However, after only liquids for so long, my gag reflex couldn't take much more.

I decided to drink water between each cup of lemonade, which seemed to even out the taste.

Now, at 10pm, I am no longer nauseated, though still lightheaded. The manual claimed that many on the diet actually felt worse during it, because of all the toxins and poisons that are stirred up during the cleansing, to which my mom attributed my situation.

From testimonies I've read, I think my excessive light-headedness is unique to my hypoglycemia-or-whatever, as this morning when I stood up my vision went black and I thankfully collapsed on my bed--not the floor.

This is my experience; I'm certain if you begin this cleanse it will be different for you.

Today has perhaps been one of the longest of my life.
That Lemon Raspberry muffin my mom promised me sounds REAL good right now.
One more day before I start going off the diet, which means a full day of orange juice, and one day of vegetable broth (yum!/yuck, though I'm sure the broth will taste lovely then), and then I can finally eat a vegetable soup. The next day I will be able to eat hard food, though the manual warns against meat, milk, and the obvious crap food I usually eat. My mom and I intend to keep food diaries.

Hope you're all active and healthy and not enjoying food! =P

The Master Cleanse - Day Two

I apologize for the abrupt ending to my last entry--my parents insisted I get off the computer, since Day Light Savings pushed the clock forwards.

All that I had left to say was pretty much that I was sipping a laxative tea. The more passing I do, the more my body is cleansed, to put it simply.

So, day two. Resisting the temptation to eat was much, much easier today--though not altogether easy, I'll admit. Once or twice I felt slight hunger pains in my stomach, but miraculously I didn't feel starved. I only felt lightheaded. I'm not sure if this is typical, though my mother is experiencing the same effect, but genetically we have very low blood pressure and are prone to faintness (and fainting...ouch!). So perhaps the lack of food simply magnified my condition; I just made sure not to stand up too quickly or exert myself. Even wrestling with the dog was like a cardiovascular work-out.

I suppose I should add, come early this morning, the laxative tea did its job. Not too pleasant, but I felt much better afterward.

Although the recipe may not sound pleasant (pure lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper) I can't really complain about the drink. One is able to adjust the recipe for one's needs, also. For example, if you're using the diet to lose weight, decrease the amount of maple syrup. Because I was having a difficult time stomaching the cayenne, I decreased the amount and it tastes just fine now.

To be honest, I'm rather proud of myself...and surprised at how okay I feel. I mean, I thought fasting for two meals was a killer! And yet after two days I'm still alive. =)

My mom informed me today, because of my young age and small stature, that she only wants me to stay on the diet until Wednesday, for four days in total. And perhaps we'll do this same routine every month, instead of two weeks four times a year, etc.

I think I can do that, especially if this proves to work.

I'm drinking another laxative now.
Talk to you tomorrow!

The Master Cleanse - Day One

Today I started what is called, "The Master Cleanse," otherwise known as the "Lemonade Diet." It's pretty much where I will drink only water and this concoction of pure, fresh lemon juice, pure maple syrup, water, and cayenne pepper for at least two weeks.
I can't eat or drink anything else. It will cleanse my body of all toxins and the crap that crappy food has built up inside of me.
This cleanse has been proven to cure the earliest signs of diseases and other health ailments, including acne, skin blemishes, allergies, and cravings.
As I have been chronically sick for the last year or so, my mom suggested I try this cleanse. I plan (and hope) to last at least the recommended two weeks, and I plan (and hope) to update this blog every night to keep you updated on how it's progressing.

Today was difficult. I discovered just how addicted to eating I really am. It was almost painful not to dig out my favorite cereals and snack throughout the day.
At first, I was starving, and food seemed the most heavenly thing on earth. But I resisted the urge to gorge, and instead sipped my lemonade. Eventually, the hunger subsided, though I did feel lightheaded, as if my blood sugar was lowering. I think I started to shake slightly, but with more intake of my lemonade, that subsided, also.
I can't quite say that I'm hungry right now; mostly, I'm just craving food.
My mom made me a water bottle full of lemonade to take to work, though it was difficult to drink because the cayenne content was too high. Right now I'm sipping a new cup, with less cayenne and more maple syrup, and really it's not too bad. Strange tasting lemonade, to say the least.

No One Else Will Do [song]

*Verse 1*

I'll admit,
His eyes kept me captivated.
To be honest,
The thought of him made me smile.
It's true,
I thought he was perfect.
But, darling, I learned the hard way
That he's not you.

*Verse 2*

I regret
Believing that his lies were true.
It's a shame
How I gave him everything.
Unfortunately, for a moment,
I let him steal my heart away
From you.

*Chorus*

I'm here, dreaming of the day we'll meet;
You're there, ready to sweep me off my feet.
Waiting patiently,
because we know we're meant to be.
For me, no one else will do
But the one who will love me forever:
You.

Some say
That fairy tales are fiction.
They claim
True love is a writer's fantastic view.
But I'm too hopelessly hopeful
To stop believing
In you.

*Chorus*

I'm here, dreaming of the day we'll meet;
You're there, ready to sweep me off my feet.
Waiting patiently,
because we know we're meant to be.
For me, no one else will do
But the one who will love me forever:
You.

*Bridge*

Perhaps a dozen frogs
Will break my heart
And my world will crumble
And I'll shatter apart.
I may just lose it all,
Fall with each swift hit,
But when I find you, love,
It will all be worth it.

*Chorus*

I'm here, dreaming of the day we'll meet;
You're there, ready to sweep me off my feet.
Waiting patiently,
because we know we're meant to be.
For me, no one else will do
But the one who will love me forever:
You.

*Closing*

I'm doing my best to become the girl
Of whom you dream;
Please don't give up
On me.
I hope you know I love you
With all my heart,
Whoever,
Wherever
You are.
